LIMITED STAY PERMIT CARD "KITAS"

For those of you foreigners who work and live in Indonesia, you must be familiar with KITAS! But what’s the meaning of KITAS?

KITAS (Limited Stay Permit Card) which was previously named KIMS or commonly known as the Temporary Stay Permit Card. KITAS is intended for foreign nationals who want to stay temporarily in Indonesia such as a resident permit and must be extended once every 1 year.

Then, who can apply for a KITAS?

1. Foreigners entering Indonesia with a Limited Stay Visa.
2. Children born in Indonesia and their father and/or mother holders of KITAS.
3. A foreigner who is granted a transfer of status from a Visiting Stay Permit.
4. Skipper, crew members or foreign experts on ships, floating devices, or installations operating in Indonesia.
5. Foreigners who are legally married with Indonesian citizens.
6. Children of foreigners who are legally married with Indonesian citizens.

So that KITAS becomes an obligation for foreigners who really want to stay temporarily, be it working, getting married, staying temporarily and or spending retirement in Indonesia, KITAS is not only an obligation but has a binding legal basis, including:

A. Regulation of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) No. 16, 2018 concerning Procedures for Granting Visas and Stay Permits for TKA (Permenkumham 16/2018).

B. Government Regulation No. 31, 2013 concerning Implementing Regulations of Law No. 6, 2011 concerning Immigration (Immigration Law).

C. Government Regulation No. 26, 2016 concerning Amendments to Government Regulation No. 31, 2013 concerning Implementing Regulations of Law No. 6, 2011 concerning Immigration (PP 26/2016).
